THE GRACE TO BE HUMAN

By: Sharee Murphy

We talk often about forgiving others, but almost never about forgiving ourselves.
Self-forgiveness is the quiet work — the kind done in mirrors, in midnights, in the places where we wrestle with who we were and who we’re trying to become.

People think strength is perfection.

  • But the truth is much simpler:
  • Strength is mercy.
  • Strength is honesty.
  • Strength is being human without punishing yourself for it.

Being human means you will feel deeply, fail occasionally, misjudge sometimes, and grow continuously. And all of those things are allowed.

Yet so many of us walk around silently carrying the weight of:

  • choices we made while we were hurting
  • emotions we didn’t understand at the time
  • moments we weren’t proud of
  • versions of ourselves we’ve already outgrown

We want to evolve, but we don’t give ourselves permission to be imperfect while we grow.

Self-forgiveness is not escapism.
It’s not irresponsibility.
It’s not pretending the moment didn’t matter. It’s acknowledging: “I am still learning myself. And that is okay.”

Grace doesn’t erase what happened —it transforms the way you move forward from it. Because you will never step into the fullness of who you’re becoming while condemning who you used to be.

Let yourself be human.

Let yourself be growing.

Let yourself be forgiven.

You’re not meant to carry everything forever.
